When you are attempting to lose weight you have to be aware that your diet is the most important part of losing weight.
You can exercise for a couple of hours a day and if your diet habits are poor then you will never lose a pound of fat. Sure you will get fit, but you will never actually lose weight.
Losing weight is actually just a simple change in your habits – it is not easy, but it is simple.
Here is an algorithm you can use in your own life to guarantee weight loss:
Step 1 – Fasting
Fasting is something that is seen as taboo by most fitness and weight loss coaches. They say that you will enter starvation mode and you won’t burn any fat – that is rubbish. It takes your body about 3 days of eating zero calories for you to start entering starvation mode.
When you fast for a day (going from 6pm until 6pm the next night is the easiest frame I have fasted for), you are pretty much dropping a whole days worth of calories at once. Often this is about half a pound of fat for most people (around 2000 calories).
Plus when your body is empty it has a chance to actually burn stored fat for energy instead of burning food that you always have in your stomach.
Step 2 – Good food choices
This isn’t to say that you can’t cheat, I actually encourage cheating sometimes. However if you are serious about losing body fat then for the most part you will want to eat good, healthy foods such as lean meats, vegetables, fruits, eggs and little else.
These foods are very filling and are low in calories so you can eat them and feel full, satisfied and enjoy your meals and feeling full. We all know it takes quite a few bags of crisps to feel full, in fact, you never really feel full from junk food.
Legumes are also a good food that have plenty of energy that lasts a long time, but they are relatively low in calories.
If you follow these tips of fasting a couple of times a week, then eating great tasting, whole foods for most of the time then you will lose weight, even if you don’t count calories.
Of course if you add exercise into the equation then you will lose weight faster, but it is optional. If you have time then I would highly recommend some sort of intense exercise such as boxing, swimming, HIIT, calisthenics or strength training.
